The government is facing one of the tough weeks ever since it took office last year. This comes after the opposition has threatened to hold a series of protests this week starting on Wednesday, July 19 and consecutively hold the demonstrations for three days. Meaning if they start on Wednesday then they will end on Friday.
And this will be a real headache for the government since judging from what happened the previous protests of Wednesday, July 12, the country was in total chaos. Property of millions of shillings was destroyed, some people lost their lives, police officers were injured and the government lost lots of money in form of income tax which was Not obtained on that day since lots of companies and businesses were closed down.
As a result, the government has come up with measures to curb citizens from demonstrating again. Some of these measures include threatening to arrest some key leaders in the opposition, withdrawing security personnel for some key opposition leaders and strengthening security officers in areas prone to server demonstrations.
In a post by Tuko news on Facebook, the president has also gone ahead to withdraw the security personnel attached to Mama Ngina Kenyatta. This is the former first lady who is also mother to the former president, Uhuru Kenyatta. According to president Ruto, Uhuru Kenyatta has been finding Azimio protests and withdrawal of security personnel attached to his mother is a threat from the government.
This act by Ruto has caused lots of reactions. Many people say she will be protected by God, others said she has been in the government long before Ruto was born while another said Ruto should be allowed to do what he wants, he is the president. See some reactions in the screenshot below.
