Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon Writes History After Winning Women’s 1500m Race

The Kenyan star won the 1500m title at the 2016 Rio Games and 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Kenyan middle-distance runner Faith Kipyegon is now a three-time Olympic champion after clinching gold in the women’s 1500m final.

Kipyegon on Saturday, August 10 obliterated her competition in the final 100 metres to win gold, setting an Olympic record of 3:51.29 which now cements her status as one of the greatest Kenyan athletes of all time.

The Kenyan star won the 1500m title at the 2016 Rio Games and 2021 Tokyo Olympics. This win ensured she stamped her dominance in the distance, becoming the first Kenyan to win three gold medals at the Olympics.

Kipyegon’s gold is Kenya’s fourth gold in the 2024 Olympics, the second in a single day, coming a few moments after her male compatriot, Emmanuel Wanyonyi, clinched victory in the men’s 800m at a time of 1:41.19
