“Kenya Won’t Fail to Move on Because of You” Ukambani MP Tells Raila as KKA Gives Azimio Ultimatum

Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse has told off the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance camp led by Raila Odinga that the country will move on with the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), should they fail to consider Kenya Kwanza Alliance’s offer.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, the Kenya Kwanza bipartisan team gave Azimio a one week ultimatum to resume the talks on the reconstitution of the poll agency, saying should they fail to show up, the exercise will continue with the IEBC Selection Panel conducting interviews for those who already sent their applications.

“If we will not have agreed by next week, we will say the law should take its course by having the panel interview those who submitted their documents so that we can get the IEBC Chair and the commissioners because the country cannot remain still because of the political interests of few people,” said the Maendeleo Chap Chap lawmaker.

Mwengi Mutuse’s remarks were echoed by the Kenya Kwanza bipartisan team leader and Tharaka MP George Murugara.

“If they fail to show up on Tuesday, July 4th, the law will take its course. It is properly stipulated in our laws on what is supposed to be done when it comes to constituting the IEBC.”

“The reconstitution of IEBC is agent and important and we must move on. Commissioners must be put in to office to conduct the looming by-elections or the pending by-elections in some constituencies and wards,” said Murugara.

In a quick rejoinder however, the Azimio wing dismissed the calls to resume the talks, saying Kenya Kwanza side has not been taking the talks with the seriousness they deserve, and the only language that seem to push Ruto to the corner is protests which they will resume on July 7th.
