KeNHA Warns Motorists Of 5-Day Traffic Disruption At Juja High Point Along Thika Road

KeNHA revealed that the disruption will affect traffic bound for Thika town from Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) and other notable points along the busy road.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure of the Thika Superhighway in a section that affects thousands of residents living in Thika and Juja towns.

In a notice on Tuesday, July 9, KeNHA revealed that the disruption will affect traffic bound for Thika town from Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) and other notable points along the busy road.

It was revealed that the disruption, set to commence from Wednesday, July 10 to Monday, July 15, will allow for construction works to be carried out regarding a footbridge foundation at Juja High Point.

“KeNHA wishes to notify the public that a section of Thika Superhighway (A2) at Juja High Point will experience traffic disruption on the inner lane of Thika-bound traffic from Wednesday, July 10, 2024, to Monday, July 15, 2024.

“This is to allow for the construction of the mid-span footbridge foundation,” read the notice in part.

KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan as stipulated above and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.

Caution has also been advised while approaching the area, with motorists also advised to observe the slight diversion from the affected inner lane to other lanes.

Constructing a footbridge foundation in the area is meant to support the structure as pedestrians use it to cross the major road from one side to the other.

The government in 2023 announced that the construction of the footbridge was meant to commence in June at a cost of Ksh400 million.

According to KeNHA, this was to bring to an end the rising road carnages that left scores injured and others dead while crossing the busy Thika Superhighway.

Speaking during a public participation forum, KeNHA Eng Francis Gitau said the authority has received numerous complaints of road mishaps that have been occurring in the area, hence the decision to install the footbridge as a lasting solution.
