Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has today, June 22, declared his new political ambitions, spelling bad news for Johnson Sakaja and others eyeing the same governor seat in Nairobi.
While appearing on TV-47, Babu Owino confidently announced his intention to run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
According to him, this move is in line with his long-term political strategy and his previous assertions of becoming Kenya’s president.
Owino’s declaration comes as no surprise to those familiar with his political trajectory. Having served as the chairman of the University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA), he has been an influential figure since his campus days.
As a four-term Sonu Chairman and now an experienced parliamentarian, Owino has built a strong political base and garnered popularity among Nairobi residents.
The decision to challenge Sakaja, a prominent figure in Nairobi politics, showcases Owino’s determination and ambition to take on established leaders.

In the ODM Party, Babu is also going to be a big threat to Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, who was vying for the governor seat in Nairobi before ODM entered a political deal with Azimio, which saw him postpone his ambitions.
ODM leader Raila Odinga had earlier endorsed him for the same seat, and he recently did the same, an indication Raila could have to choose between Babu and Wanyonyi
