Irked Azimio Leaders Address Press as Most Protestors Kept Off Street Protests Today

Azimio MPs are to blame if Finance Bill passes”/>

Azimio la Umoja MPs have come out to address the press as demonstrations enter day two this week.

Speaking from parliament buildings on Thursday, the MPs led by leader of Minority Opiyo Wandayi, criticized Ruto’s government, crying foul over the high number of demonstrators who were shot dead yesterday. The MPs challenged the Director of Public Prosecutions to conduct speedy investigations into the police brutality and bring culprits to book.

They threatened that should this fail, they will turn their attention to the ICC court, terming the current situation as crimes against humanity and genocide in the making. Azimio called on the International communities to look into the current under happenings in Kenya.

“We are asking the DPP to carry out speedy investigations in view to arresting perpetrators and charging them in court. But if this does not happen, we are asking the ICC to take a closer look at the Kenyan situation because we are witnessing crimes against humanity and genocide in the making. These attacks are planned and targeted at a specific section of the population ” stated MP Opiyo Wandayi

The team also cried foul over what they termed as unlawful arrest and abduction of their supporters and leaders.

“If the police have a case against anybody, arrest them in a civil manner, take them to a police station, prepare a charge sheet and produce them in court. Banbu called me at midnight on Tuesday that he was at the airport and had been arrested. A few minutes later, I couldn’t reach Babu Owino on the phone upto now. You cannot detain anybody for more than 24 hours before producing them in court. This is the first time we are witnessing this since the inauguration of the Constitution” lamented Opiyo

He said Azimio will not relent in its efforts to demonstrate, saying they will be back to the streets again on Friday.

“Tomorrow, Kenyans will be back to demonstrate against all these illegal practices” he added

This comes at a time when a low turn out of demonstrators was witnessed for the better part of Thursday. Big cities including Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa witnessed little or no demonstrations at all despite Raila Odinga calling on his supporters to come out in large numbers.
