“I Don’t Support Those Negotiations” Senator Mungatana Dismisses Azimio-KKA Bomas Talks, Reveals Why

Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana has revealed that he is not in support of the ongoing bipartisan talks between the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance.

Speaking with TV 47 on Monday evening, Mungatana argued that the talks amounts to ‘taking democracy for a ride’ since Kenyans chose their leaders on the August 9, 2022, and what is going on is seeking to appease a few.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) senator further said the talks are not in line with the Constitution.

“The premise upon which these talks were created, for me personally, I do not agree with the whole discussion because it is not provided for in the Constitution.”

“As Kenyans, we had said if you lose an election and you are aggrieved, go to the Supreme Court if you are seeking the presidency, and the High Court if you are seeking the gubernatorial seat and seek to overturn the decision. If that decision is delivered, you are supposed to play your role as the opposition.”

“This thing they are creating now is not within the Constitution, and a lot of lawyers will have a problem with it because it is not envisaged in the Constitution.”

“What they are doing is now politics, passing the motion to legalize the talks is not in line with the law,” said Mungatana.

The bipartisan talks which have been going on at the Bomas of Kenya started after an alleged meeting between President William Ruto and the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in presence of the former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo few weeks ago.

The talks came about after a series of anti-government demos stated by the Azimio camp on high cost of living and which resulted to loss of lives and destruction of property.
