I Came Out To Protest But: Viral Woman Speaks On Protecting Nairobi Shops From Goons [VIDEO]

Kenyans were leaving nothing to chance with the goal of protecting businesses from the goons who had infiltrated otherwise peaceful protests to break into businesses and loot property worth millions of shillings.

The anti-government protests took a dark turn on Tuesday, July 2 in Nairobi and different parts of the country, forcing citizens among them business owners to resort to taking matters into their own hands to safeguard their premises from goons.

Armed with batons and other crude weapons, Kenyans were leaving nothing to chance with the goal of protecting businesses from the goons who had infiltrated otherwise peaceful protests to break into businesses and loot property worth millions of shillings.

This show of defiance also inspired protesters who had come to take part in peaceful demonstrations to step up and provide assistance, like this woman in the video you’re about to watch below as you’re reading this story.

Veteran investigative journalist John Allan Namu approached the woman named Immaculate who was standing guard fearlessly with a baton in hand and hawk-eyed, perhaps on the lookout for goons who threatened to raid businesses in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

“Why are you out with a baton today?” he asked her.

“I came out of my house knowing I’m coming to protest, like my fellow youth who are coming to protest. Now things have turned, ask me why,” she began.

Immaculate painted to Allan Namu the real-time situation on the ground, with goons causing havoc to the point that other Nairobi residents felt they were fed up.

“The goons have been sent. Everywhere. Stealing from people. Snatching people’s phones…and we are here to deal with them. We deal with them first, then we continue with our protests,” she added, noting that she had been participating in the protests, which began on Tuesday, June 18.

She was surrounded by other Kenyans who were seen armed with batons. Immaculate cited a clip making rounds on social media showing individuals in boda bodas riding out of City Hall. Viral Tea was unable to independently verify its authenticity.

Immaculate swiftly became a viral sensation amongst netizens on Kenya’s social media who lauded her for her eloquence and bold expression of current events.

Some did compliment her good looks, with user Ian Cox commenting on X “Putting the bad in baddie”, one of the key events in the protests where even some of the most good-looking Kenyan women have come out to express their frustrations at President William Ruto’s government.

Over the course of the day, protests broke out across several towns. Many instances of businesses being looted and property being vandalised were reported.

On Monday, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) ordered the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to expedite investigations into the reported cases of vandalism of both private and public property reported from the ongoing protests.

The DPP noted that the call for a probe stemmed from the loss of lives and the destruction and vandalism of private and public property.

“Any individual found culpable will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” read part of the statement by the ODPP.
