This was announced by Governor Johnson Sakaja on Friday, November 15 who revealed that major roads in the city are set for rehabilitation and construction works in the coming weeks.
A series of major roads in Nairobi are set for vital renovations which could however disrupt the traffic flow of motorists using the roads within the capital city.
This was announced by Governor Johnson Sakaja on Friday, November 15 who revealed that major roads in the city are set for rehabilitation and construction works in the coming weeks.
“Some are classified as National while others are County calling for close collaboration with all agencies involved,” the governor announced in a post shared on his X account.
The construction is set to affect major roads feeding into the Central Business District (CBD) and they include Uhuru Highway, Juja, Jogoo Rd, Westlands, Upper Hill, Kilimani and Kileleshwa.

These are among other previously stalled projects under the defunct Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and the national government.
This announcement by Sakaja came after he met with Transport CS Davis Chirchir, Roads PS Joseph Mbugua, Kenya Highways Authority (KeNHA) Director General Kungu Ndungu, officials from both KURA and Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) and the Nairobi County Works and Mobility team. Â
Sakaja revealed that the meeting saw them align plans for the rehabilitation and construction of the National and County roads in the City. Additionally, he called for collaboration between all the agencies involved to streamline the project that is set to be undertaken.
Nairobi residents have long decried the poor state of roads in the county with many calling for Sakaja’s intervention into the matter. The residents have expressed their frustrations on potholes, poor drainage, and dimly lit areas.
Interventions on Jogoo Road, arguably one of the biggest arteries to the CBD serving the majority of Eastlands residents are timely. On Thursday, November 14, KURA dismissed reports of the diminishing state of Jogoo Road after a video surfaced online, but this underscores the need to carry out upgrade works on the road to ease traffic flow to the city.
