Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, a member of the Kenya Kwanza Dialogue Team, has assured President William Ruto that the anticipated talks between Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance will not tolerate talks on power sharing.
Speaking at Sagana State Lodge on Sunday when President Ruto had hosted interdenominational prayer service, Mbarire said the issues to be discussed are clear, and handshake is not among them.
“It is indeed a great thing that we are here today with you Your Excellency as the President of Kenya. I want to assure you that I am ready to go where you have send me alongside Ichung’wah.”
“We are very clear on what our agenda for the discussion is. Handshake is not part of the agenda. Do not be worried, we are firm and ready to execute the only agenda the president has send us to discuss,” said the UDA Chairperson.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) governor thanked the president for getting time to tour Mt Kenya region and thank the people for their votes in the August 9, 2022 elections, further expressing confidence that the Kenya Kwanza government would deliver on its manifesto and streamline all value chains in the region.
Most of the leaders who spoke were against the handshake, saying President Ruto should focus on delivering his campaign pledged to Kenyans.
The issues lined up for talks by the Kenya Kwanza wing include; IEBC reconstitution, the implementation of two thirds gender rule, the entrenchment of CDF and office of the opposition leader as well as the embedment of the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
The Azimio listed the cost of living, IEBC reconstitution, audit of 2022 elections, political parties independence and outstanding constitutional reforms.
