Village Elders in our country have been very instrumental because they are the ones ensuring that there is order in the village. They work hand in hand with the Chief and therefore they handle critical cases. At the same time, they are the ones who knows their people better. They know who is good and who is bad. They are able to track a problem so easily because they are living together with the people they govern.
It is good news for them after the Interior Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki said that President William Samoei Ruto’s government has plans to pay them because they are a link between government and the public.
Professor Kithure Kindiki was saying this after he appeared before the Senate National Security and Foreign Relayions Committee in Nairobi Yesterday.
He made it clear that his Ministry is trying to push for an amendment for the village to be recognized as the lowest unit because currently it is the Sub Location that is the lowest administrative unit.
