Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, November 24 revealed that members of the Cabinet were allegedly afraid of President William Ruto.

Gachagua spoke during a church service at the AIPCA Kangari in Kigumo, Murang’a County where he offered a fresh perspective of why he fell out with the Head of State.

The self-proclaimed ‘truthful man’, argued that he was the only one among leaders who could face up to the President when he felt that some of the government deals could do serious damage to the country and torment members of the public, citing the collapsed Adani deals as an example.

“The matter with Adani is what led to my fallout with the president. Because in the Cabinet, I was the only person who could tell him the truth. All the others were cowards.

“I told him the issue with Adani is shady and the people don’t want it. He hated me. It was said I’m opposing government projects,” he claimed.

The former second-in-command called on President Ruto to “take time to read the book of John 8:31. Let him agree to listen to the people of Kenya.”

While insisting the level of impunity in the country was at an all-time high, Gachagua further revealed he was viewed as an enemy of progress whenever he tried to speak up about the Adani deal.

Despite President Ruto severing ties with Adani hours after the United States (US) government indicted its founder Gautam Adani and several directors in a Ksh32 billion ($250 million) bribery case, Gachagua insisted that the government cut ties with the Indian conglomerate because the US government took action.

“Even after the president cancelled the deals, there was no need to clap for him because it did not come from his heart. He only responded after that suspect was indicted in the United States,” the former deputy president claimed.

The former DP’s latest comments were that of a man who had little left to lose in his political career, three weeks after he was impeached as Deputy President.

As the race for supremacy in 2027 continues to shape up, Gachagua is intent on consolidating the Mount Kenya bloc and has in the past suggested that people from the region ‘do not forget’.

Meanwhile, concerns have surfaced regarding Gachagua’s safety. On November 20, he claimed that he was being stalked by security agents in unmarked vehicles who had pitched camp outside his Nairobi residence.

“Security agents in unmarked cars have been following me wherever I go. They are parking at the entrance of my Nairobi residence, taking note of all my visitors, and they trail me whenever I leave the house, even all the way to my rural home in Nyeri,” he announced on his social media pages.
