Gachagua Heaps Praise On Njuguna Ndung’u As He Prepares To Hand Over To Mbadi

The DP further said the reconstitution of the Cabinet is a win for all Kenyans adding that the people of Mount Kenya region are happy with it.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday, July 26 praised former National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u for what he termed as an outstanding performance as he prepares to hand over the reins to John Mbadi.

Speaking during the burial of Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau’s mother Susan Wanjohi in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, the second-in-command urged Ndung’u to be proud of what he has accomplished in the Ministry, which played a crucial part in addressing the economic deficiencies that the current administration felt when it took over more than a year ago.

“I want to thank Professor Njuguna Ndung’u for your very outstanding performance at the National Treasury. I want to say we are very proud of you as our son from this region.

“We know where you found our economy and your stewardship of the National Treasury. As you hand over to the new nominee, walk with your head tall. You worked hard for late hours, you came to the cabinet and presented clear and concrete proposals,” said Gachagua.

The DP went on to issue words of encouragement to Ndung’u, stating that his journey in life was not yet done, even as he is set to go reclusive from the public eye.

“Let me encourage you that when one door closes, God opens another. We wish you well, as you retreat know that we are very proud of your achievements. ” Gachagua added.

The DP further said the reconstitution of the Cabinet is a win for all Kenyans adding that the people of Mount Kenya region are happy with it.

Gachagua renewed his attacks on members of the Fourth Estate during his address, as well as political analysts and commentators who have been firm on the cabinet nominees.

“I have seen many people, all sorts of analysts, newspaper people, and commentators commenting about the gains and losses, which region got what, which one lost, which one didn’t, who is strong who is not. I think the whole thing is a win for the people of Kenya and us as a region we are happy that Mercy adds our numbers,” the DP remarked.

Gachagua went ahead to dismiss the allegations of the dismissal of the secretary to the cabinet, Mercy Wanjau. According to Gachagua, her position was still intact.

The DP commended Mercy Wanjau for her role in cabinet meetings. He described her as an efficient and humble public officer.

“I have a testimony because Mercy Wanjau works with us, a very efficient public officer who runs the cabinet properly, we see signs of a good upbringing,” stated Gachagua, adding “It is good to clarify because when the cabinet was dissolved, Mercy’s position remained in contact, so there was no need to re-appoint her.”

Ndung’u was among the 10 CS who missed out when President Ruto reconstituted the cabinet. His potential successor in the National Treasury, pending confirmation by the National Assembly, is expected to relinquish his role as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman and a Nominated Member of Parliament to take up the CS position.

One of his first assignments, should he be appointed, will be to swallow his own words in terms of past criticisms of the government’s aggressive push to hike taxes, some of which were contained in the Finance Bill 2024, which triggered Kenyan youth-led nationwide protests.
