Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua are hoping that this time round, Mt Kenya region will rally behind them in the next elections to enable them win the Presidential seat. The opposition led by Raila Odinga are still depending on retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s influence in the region to win votes of the residents. In recent days, Uhuru has shown clearly that he is still active in politics and rallies behind Raila Odinga.
Having led region for almost a decade plus, Uhuru’s influence in Mt Kenya region seems to be fading away as Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua seems to control central. Uhuru’s men have crossed to President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza side stregthening the coalition. In the process of decamping to Ruto’s side, all the influence Uhuru had has reduced magnificently. Not just that, President Ruto has been made the spokesperson of the region taking over from retired President Uhuru Kenyatta making it hard for Uhuru to win again for the Azimio coalition in the next elections.
