Former cabinet secretary Moses Kuria on Monday, August 5, 2024, called on Azimio coalition party leader Raila Odinga and his son Raila Odinga Jr. at Raila’s Capitol Hill office.

In a statement on his X, Raila Jr. said he was hanging out with Kuria after he was sacked from his previous position as the cabinet secretary for Public Service.

Hanging out with my Good buddy Moses Kuria; tuko jobless corner. Vibes and inshallah,” Raila Jr stated.

In his statement, Kuria noted that they discussed a range of issues concerning the country including efforts of uniting the nation and the upcoming dialogue.

Kuria, Raila bury hatchet

Kuria and Raila, once fierce critics, buried the hatchet on April 7, 2024, when the former CS visited Odinga at his Karen home with a goat.

During the visit, the former CS was accompanied by his mother Teresia and his wife Joyce in a symbolic ceremony where the goat gift was a sign of burying the hatchet.

In the visit, Kuria stated that he used his network of African presidents to drum up support for Raila’s African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

The meeting was also attended by Azimio co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka and Suleiman Shahbal.

“As part of the ongoing national support for my good friend Rt Hon Raila Odinga ‘s candidature for the position of African Union Commission Chair, today my mother Teresia, my wife Joyce, friends and I were treated to a sumptuous lunch by Mama Ida Odinga as we wished Baba good health, vitality and courage as he embarks on his journey,” Kuria stated in April.

“In addition, I have lots of African experience. I have visited 15 Presidents as a Trade Minister and as a special envoy for President Ruto on African integration. I have therefore downloaded my African and Global contacts to Baba to ensure his success for the AU Commission Chair. We made many calls to African and global leaders to lobby for support.”

On July 29, 2024, the state formally submitted Raila’s bid for the AUC chairman ahead of the August 6, 2024, deadline for submission.

The move was seen as an affirmation of the government’s commitment to supporting Raila to the top Continental Commission’s helm.

The bid was submitted by the State Department for Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei and a host of members from Raila’s secretariat, in Addis Ababa.
