The family of the late Wells Fargo Company’s Human Resource Manager Willis Ayieko whose decomposed body was discovered in Mungowere stream in Khwisero Sub-County has praised the government for its efforts in catching his killers.
Speaking during Ayieko’s candlelight vigil on Friday, November 1, 2024, his elder brother Aggrey Onyango and former Chairman of the Siaya County Council expressed appreciation to the state for diligently following up on the case to ensure their kin gets justice.
He particularly hailed Siaya governor James Orengo for fast-tracking the case with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to ensure that the killers are apprehended and supporting them through the difficult times.
“The government is good just because of two great men, my friend Governor James Orengo camped in Kiambu Road Nairobi for two days insisting that he wanted to know who killed Willis,” he said.
“These things happening are not for nothing, these great men were in the mortuary, sitting there the whole day. You are such wonderful people, you have stood with us this whole time.”
While insisting that the family demands to know the person who called the shots in his kin’s death, Onyango professed his love for his brother whom he says was also a son to him.
“I don’t want to speak too much, I have cried to an extent that I will not cry anymore, Willis is not only my brother, he is my son, biologically we are brothers but socially and everything, he is my son if I were, to talk about Willis, I would talk until cows came back home. Who is this mighty man who wanted Willis dead,” he posed.
Siaya County Executive Vommittee Member (CECM) for Agriculture Sylvester K’Okoth also voiced his concerns asserting that the deceased was a distinguished gentleman who always avoided conflicts.
According to Sylvester, Willis always employed diplomatic ways of dealing with conflict whenever a situation would get out of hand.
“When things would get out of hand he would use diplomatic language. Whoever wanted Willis dead should not have done it the way they did,” he stated.
Ayieko found dead
Ayieko’s body was discovered on October 23, 2024, days after he was reported missing on October 21, 2024.
The deceased was last spotted alive at a funeral in Gem, Siaya County on Friday, October 18, 2024, this was before he left for his home in Kakamega where he was supposed to attend a family event the next day.
His vehicle was later discovered abandoned in Sabatia, Vihiga County.
“We received a call from members of the public who alerted us to a body near a stream in Yala. Upon arrival, we found the deceased handcuffed, which immediately raised suspicions of a criminal act. Investigations are underway to establish the circumstances of his death,” Siaya Sub-County Police Commander Charles Wafula said.
“CCTV footage from the petrol station shows two men parking the vehicle before fleeing the scene. We are analyzing the footage and working with our colleagues in Vihiga to identify the suspects,” Wafula added.
