This is life after power. As always, only the brave survive after losing the trappings and privileges that come with this power.
But for former Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko, he is back to his roots where his colourful career as a lawyer started over 30 years ago.
During former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s final years in office, Tobiko was one of the most powerful members of his cabinet. At this time, the former CS had a very frosty relationship with the then Deputy President William Ruto. And so, when Ruto won the presidency, Tobiko’s days were numbered.
As Ruto named his cabinet, Soipan Tuya, the former Narok County Women Representative had been picked to succeed her fellow Maasai, Tobiko in the Environment docket.
And the former Director of Public Prosecutions suddenly found himself in the cold. But nonetheless, he must have seen it coming especially after Ruto clinched the presidency.
But for the senior counsel and a seasoned lawyer like Tobiko, he has quickly adjusted to new life outside government.
Today, the Former CS is reported to have fone back to private practice where he offers consultancy services in the legal field.
Going forward, the former DPP could be tempted to plunge into the murky world of politics. But for now, he must be contented in whatever he is doing.
