Detectives investigate murder of hospital staff in Eldoret

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed that they had begun their investigations on what transpired leading to the death of a senior accountant of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

In a statement released on Thursday, July 11, 2024, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that two suspects had been arraigned in court over the gruesome murder of 44-year-old and mother of four, Rael Cherop Biwott.

In their revelation, Rael’s body had been dismembered and her body parts were scattered across Uasin Gishu and Nandi counties.

Husband as prime suspect

According to DCI, their investigations revealed that the heinous crime took place between June 24th and 27th, 2024 and had found Rael’s husband Francis Mwangi Ndirangu as their prime suspect.

“The DCI Homicide Directorate has taken over investigations into the gruesome murder of 44-year-old Rael Cherop Biwott, whose dismembered body parts were found dumped at various places across Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties on 24th and 27th June 2024.” DCI’s statement read in part.

Further, detectives outlined that Mwangi, the victim’s spouse, emerged as the key suspect due to conflicting statements about Rael’s disappearance.

Detectives discovered that Mwangi’s testimony was misleading, and their investigations revealed that on the last day of her disappearance,  Rael left work with her husband (on June 22, 2024) contrary to his initial claims of having last seen her during breakfast.

“The mother of four was reported missing by her husband 24 hours after she left her workplace on June 22nd at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where she was working as a Senior Accountant Assistant at the billing section,” DCI stated.

“According to the husband Francis Mwangi Ndirangu, who is the prime suspect in the monstrous killing, the deceased went missing after sharing breakfast with him on the 23rd of June, a fact that contradicted statements by his kids and a co-accused.”

Contradictory statements

Detectives uncovered that Mwangi also falsified his testimony claiming that they both left Rael’s workplace by boarding a matatu but CCTV footage showed they both left in a personal vehicle.

“Probing the case, Homicide detectives jointly with their Kapseret counterparts have so far established that the deceased left her workplace minutes to 7 pm in the company of her husband on June 22nd, and contrary to the suspect’s testimony that they boarded a matatu home, a CCTV footage obtained confirmed that they left in a Toyota Succeed hired by the husband. The wife never arrived home,” DCI revealed.

Further, different body parts belonging to Rael were found in Kapsilegaa and Lamaiywet villages in Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties.

An autopsy unveiled neck injuries and head trauma. The husband, along with an accomplice, were apprehended and presented in an Eldoret court.
