On October 20, 2024, during a press conference, you publicly stated that there had been multiple assassination attempts on your life. You were quoted saying, “On August 30, in Kisumu, undercover security agents entered my room, bugged it, and one of them tried to poison my food. We detected it and were able to escape the scheme. You went further to state, “On September 3rd, another team from the National Intelligence Service came to Nyeri and tried to poison food that was meant for me and the Kikuyu council of elders.”

These are serious allegations emanating from a person of your stature and cannot be taken lightly. In light of the seriousness of this matter, we kindly request your presence on 22nd October 2024 at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters, Mazingira Complex-Kiambu Road, to formally record your statement to enable prompt and thorough investigations into the matter.

We understand the sensitivity of the allegations and assure you that this matter will be handled with the seriousness it deserves. Your statement is a crucial component of our investigation.

Addressing the press outside Karen Hospital on Sunday, October 20, Gachagua, who insisted that he was still the DP, told Kenyans that he didn’t feel safe. This is after he revealed that his security was withdrawn while he was admitted to hospital.

Gachagua then revealed that the two attempts on his life, in his view had failed, hence the other solution utilised was an impeachment motion against him which sailed through the National Assembly and the Senate.

He also revealed that President William Ruto’s allies had reached out to Karen Hospital many times inquiring about his condition, however, they were not doing so with caring hearts.

“I hear many of his people were calling here asking whether I’m dead, whether I’ll survive or recover. They were celebrating. It is the most unfortunate thing that has ever happened in this country that you can be so vicious to a man who helped him to be President,” he went on, affirming that his only crime was telling the truth.

Gachagua then tore into the Head of State for being vicious against him to the point of withdrawing his security while he was hospitalised.

“I have been here alone without a single officer looking after me. He ordered for the withdrawal of security guards in my rural home in Nyeri, in my private home here in Karen and all officers who were close to me were disarmed and given warning that they should not be anywhere near me.

“I didn’t know President William Ruto could be that vicious. I am shocked by how vicious a man I helped to be President, a man I believed in, a man that I was persecuted for supporting, could be so vicious against me when I’m literally fighting for my life in the hospital. How cruel can a man be?” Gachagua held nothing back against his former boss.

He therefore cast doubt on his safety urging that following the withdrawal of his security, President Ruto should bear the full responsibility if anything happened to him.
