DCI revealed that detectives based in Lungalunga are seeking the cold-blooded robbers who invaded the woman’s home on Sunday and took her life
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is appealing for your help in tracking down suspected robbers who raided the home of an 87-year-old woman in Mwololo village, Kwale County and killed her.
In a statement on Monday, July 8, DCI revealed that detectives based in Lungalunga are seeking the cold-blooded robbers who invaded the woman’s home on Sunday and took her life as they were targeting her only goat.
“In the abominable incident reported by the village chairperson, the elderly woman was found lying dead on her bed with multiple cuts suspected to have been inflicted by a machete, and her only goat stolen by yet-to-be-identified violent robbers,” stated the DCI in part.

DCI detectives based at Lungalunga have since taken over the matter, and are jointly with Mwereni location authorities combing the area for leads to her killers.

The murder comes amidst concerns over the rise in cases of violence against women that have culminated in women being brutally murdered by men they were interacting with.
UN Women defines the term femicide as an intentional killing with a gender-related motivation. It may be driven by stereotyped gender roles, discrimination towards women and girls, unequal power relations between women and men, or harmful social norms.
Gender-based violence is a major concern in Kenya. In 2022 at least 34% of women said they had experienced physical violence, according to a national survey.
The recent femicide cases have drawn outrage on social media with civil societies calling for action.
On January 30, the DCI introduced a specialized team with firm instructions to expedite investigations of serious sexual offences and murder incidents involving women.
DCI explained in a statement that the team derived from the investigative agency’s Homicide Directorate was formed with a mission to put to an end the worrying trend of femicide in the country.
The team comprising criminal intelligence analysts and forensic experts, will also partner with other stakeholders to come up with swift and comprehensive preventive strategies to address this atrocious violation of human rights.
