The emigration department was established under the ministry of internal security to facilitate the delivery of various services to Kenyan and non Kenyans. The services include registration of new citizens , facilitating foreign travel through issuance of passports as well as requlating entry and exit of people in the country.
The ministry had witnessed a delay in processing of these crucial documents prompting the interior Cabinet secretary for defense, Kithure Kindiki to make an impromptu visit to Nyayo offices to establish the root cause of delay. The CS was responding to pressure from people across all parts of the country who had become impatient of waiting for the processing of these crucial documents.
The CS establish that the delay was done by certain teams within the facility and termed the Nyayo house as a crime scene.
It is now apparent that his threats have bore fruits as the emigration department has issued a statement announcing a drastic decline in the number of backlog from 100 000 to 45000 people yet to be served.
Emigration and Citizen services PS Julius Bitok announced this during today’s media brief.
This is a drastic reduction in the backlog and it is apparent that CS Kindiki’s whip has bore fruits.
