Meet Geoffrey Mosiria, who is the Nairobi County Chief Officer of Environment, who has recently gained significant attention thanks to his hands-on approach to public health and hygiene in the city.
Have you ever wondered how the Nairobi County government goes on to enforce measures to curb noise pollution in residential areas, with the primary culprits being churches and nightclubs? It is not always what Kenyans term as hot-air announcements by county officials, right up to Governor Johnson Sakaja himself.
Meet Geoffrey Mosiria, who is the Nairobi County Chief Officer of Environment, who has recently gained significant attention thanks to his hands-on approach to public health and hygiene in the city, as well as the environment that includes ensuring peace of mind of residents at their homes in the night.
Recently, he has been taking to his TikTok account to demonstrate his enforcement of the order in the city and regulation of noise levels, paying visits to churches and nightclubs which have been the most notorious for disturbing the zen and peace of Nairobi residents.
On Friday, September 13, he paid a visit to a church in Mwiki, Kasarani after receiving complaints regarding noise pollution from the worship centre.Â
With his gadget to measure noise levels, he stormed the church only to find it empty with the worship team seemingly practising for the weekend worship services given how out of tune the lead singers were.

In one move, he took the microphones and reasoned with the team before letting them off, with a warning.
“Today, we are just giving you a verbal warning. I am also saved, and I would like to see the ‘sheep’ coming to church, but they are complaining about the noise. It is better to sing without the microphone,” he told the church’s pastor.Â
It is worth noting that he had previously exposed the same church following complaints about disturbing noise coming from it, which he shared on TikTok as a warning to the place of worship, which was blatantly ignored, forcing him into action.
After the church, he and his team move to the next target, an entertainment joint. This time, their entry pace steps up, one of the members measuring the noise levels as the How We Roll hit track by Chris Brown and Ciara plays in the background.

The music stops as Mosiria and his team enter the nightclub. However, as soon as they entered, they made their way out, alongside a person who appeared to be the club’s manager.
Mosiria tells him what he had told the pastor of the Kasarani church beforehand; that he had received complaints regarding the noise levels at the club, which is in the vicinity of a popular private university.
In another clip, he is seen roaming near another entertainment joint, but this one is more packed than the previous one. You see, this is a popular spot located in Kileleshwa, and the premises happen to be very close to residential apartments.
His colleague, armed with the same device to measure noise pollution levels and a phone to take pictures, does his job and in they go, observing the crowded atmosphere such that no motorist can even get a parking spot for a quick late errand.

“You can see they closed the road to the point that the neighbours cannot access…and this is the complaint that I got that they even blocked the roads where neighbours cannot access,” Mosiria narrated, adding “So we have taken action as per the law because we came here and warned them…we talked to them and cautioned them…now the time has come to take action.”
Mosiria’s acts have received significant praise on social media, with residents urging him to keep up the good work of restoring order in the city.Â
These latest acts follow his adventures in the public health sector and thanks to his tireless efforts, particularly in exposing the poor sanitary conditions of street food vendors and eateries within Nairobi’s central business district, several kiosks have been closed down and vendors not meeting the required hygiene standards suspended.
Mosiria has steered Nairobi County to substantial improvements in its health sector. As the Chief Officer of health facilities, Mosiria was been instrumental in these developments, earning Governor Sakaja’s praise.
A solid academic background supports Geoffrey Mosiria’s impressive track record. He graduated from the University of Nairobi in 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and later completed his MBA at the same institution in 2018.
His professional journey in the health sector began in 2013 when he served as a Hospital Administrator at Pumwani Maternity Hospital, Mbagathi Hospital, Mutuini, and Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital until 2022.
In 2022, Mosiria was appointed Assistant Director of Youth Affairs before transitioning into his current role as the Environment Chief Officer. Through his leadership, he has proven to be an invaluable asset to Nairobi County, driving significant advancements in the health sector and beyond.
