Cheers in Kisii as Arati Warns Ruto’s Government Days After ODM Appointed him as Deputy Chairperson

Kisii Governor Simba Arati has finally broken his silence two days after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party appointed him as the Deputy National Chairperson, taking over from the former Kisii Woman Rep Janet Ong’era.

Speaking on Sunday during a visit by the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka among other leaders allied to the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance, Arati assured Raila that the party and the coalition will revamp and give President William Ruto a run for his money in 2027.

“Baba I want to appreciate that I was appointed as the Deputy Chairperson of ODM. I have started working and we will ensure in the coming days that Azimio and ODM will face off with the government, ‘tutapita nayo.’ We are ready,” said Arati amid cheers from the residents.

Few days ago, President Ruto had jokingly implored upon Arati to ditch the ODM party and join him in UDA and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

For years, Kisii County had been considered as Raila’s stronghold but in the last year’s polls, President Ruto’s UDA Party had made significant inroads, with political experts saying Ruto’s recent regional tours labelled developmental, are more political than just working tours.

Insiders within the ODM party hinted that the appointment of the new leaders to the party is the first step to revamping the party ahead of 2027 polls.

Migori senator Eddie Oketch will be the National Executive Council’s Secretary for Humanitarian and disaster Management Affairs while Kakamega woman representative Elsie Muhanda will be the Secretary for Security.
