Blogger Alai Asks Why Uhuru Referred to Ruto as “My President” When Other Azimio Principals Haven’t

Kenyan blogger and Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA), Robert Alai, has responded to comments made by Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, whereby he unequivocally stated that he and his fellow leaders within the opposition Azimio coalition are not ready to acknowledge William Ruto as their President. This recognition would only come if Ruto ordered the auditing of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) servers to validate his win.

The political contention lies at the heart of the opposition, which is hesitant to accept Ruto’s presidency without further proof of his electoral victory. They believe that an independent audit of the IEBC servers will provide the necessary transparency to verify the election results.

Alai, a well-known political blogger and influencer turned politician, expressed his endorsement of Kalonzo’s sentiments but raised eyebrows with his pointed criticism of the Azimio coalition’s chairman, former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In a private media interview approximately two weeks ago, following a raid on his son’s home in Karen, Uhuru Kenyatta unambiguously stated that, despite his fallout with Ruto, he acknowledges him as his president. He added that he respects Ruto greatly and would readily assist with any consultations. This declaration seemed at odds with the general sentiment within the opposition, triggering Alai’s controversial question about Kenyatta’s true allegiance.

Alai questioned whether Uhuru was supporting or against Azimio, articulating a potential division within the Azimio coalition. Alai’s concern implies that the former president’s statement acknowledging Ruto as “My President” goes against the coalition’s stated stance of non-recognition until an IEBC audit is performed.

While endorsing Musyoka’s call for an audit, Alai’s challenge to the former President Kenyatta indicates a potential rift within the opposition. It suggests an ideological disparity between the coalition’s chairman and its other members, which could potentially weaken their united front against Ruto.

Kenya’s political landscape has always been dynamic, and the opposition Azimio coalition faces an uphill battle in navigating their internal conflicts while mounting a challenge to President Ruto’s legitimacy.
