Babu Warns Govt, Reveals Why Anti-Government Protests Might Be Intense In The Coming Days

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has broken his silence after being released from police custody on Friday.

The Azimio allied lawmaker has now revealed what he went through in the hands of police from the time he was arrested to the tim he was set free.

The second term lawmaker was arrested by DCI at Jamo Kenyatta International Airport on Tuesday night immediately after arriving from Mombasa before being driven to Kagundo police station in Kirinyaga where he stayed until Friday.

The vocal legislator was later brought to Milimani law courts where he was charged with conspiracy to commit chaos or subversive activities.

Mr Owino says that he was given a harsh treatment as he was handcuffed and blindfolded before being bandled into a boot of a Subaru car.

He said that for the three days he was kept away from his legal team, family and friends, he did not eat anything neither did he shower.

Babu now wonders what a common citizen arrested by police is now going through if he, a member of National Assembly what accorded a treatment he has termed as inhumane.

“For three days, I wasn’t given food, no access to my family, lawyers and legal representatives. I did not take a bath or water and that was a very inhumane treatment accorded to me,” he said.

Babu warned the government against arresting and detaining opposition leaders, saying that it would act as a catalyst to the ongoing opposition protests.

“What you are doing to me and other leaders will only catalyse this reaction. We will do it even better; we will ensure that we will never be intimidated or cowed,” Babu said.

A good number of Azimio allys were on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday arrested by the government for allegedly taking part in ongoing anti-government protests.

Babu vowed to continue speaking for the people of Kenya, saying that it is what he was elected to do.

“A good leader is one that ensures that his people do not suffer. Subjecting people to these harsh conditions means that you are fighting for personal interest,” he said.
