“Eugene Kiprop Kipchirchir, 38, and Hillary Kiplangat Kibet, 40, thought they could pull a fast one on the police, but their plan went up in smoke when they were apprehended by officers from DCI Kondele.

“These audacious culprits spun a web of lies, claiming to possess crucial information about a well-known fugitive involved in car theft. However, their yarn quickly unravelled when they attempted to grease the officers’ palms with the hefty bribe to keep the fugitive from facing justice,” stated the DCI in part.

During the subsequent interrogation, the schemers revealed details that led the officers to a parking lot at Dondez restaurant.

It is there that they nabbed the main suspect, Rashid Oyondi Nyanuba, who was hiding inside an Isuzu double cab.

“As a result of their ill-advised scheme, the culprits are now cooling their heels at Kondele Police Station, awaiting their date in court.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations will not turn a blind eye to corruption and will uphold the law with the utmost integrity and impartiality. Cases of attempting to tip the scales of justice with underhanded tactics will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” added DCI.

On April 10 this year, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) announced the arrest of a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detective who demanded a Ksh10,000 bribe from a resident in Nyandarua County.

EACC revealed that the officer attached to Ngano Police Station demanded the amount from the said resident who lost Ksh115,000 in mobile money to fraudsters.

“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), through its Central Regional Office in Nyeri, on Wednesday morning arrested Luke Nyasangah, a DCI Officer based at Ngano Police Station, Nyandaraua County, for demanding Ksh10,000 bribe from a local resident who had lost Ksh115,000 in mobile money to fraudsters, and needed police assistance to recover the funds,” stated EACC in part.

“The suspect told the complainant that the bribe was mandatory to facilitate tracking of the fraudsters.”

DCI’s latest statement thus emphasizes its commitment to integrity within the agency as it exercises its mandate to collect and provide criminal intelligence, undertake investigations on serious crimes including homicide, narcotics crimes, human trafficking, money laundering, terrorism, economic crimes, piracy, organized crimes, and cybercrime among others as well as maintain law and order.
