Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has called for an end of the anti-government demonstrations that have bee going on across the country.
Kindiki in a statement issued on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, termed the protests as anarchy, violence and plunder, which must cease at whatever cost.
Kindiki on repeat of protests
He further stated that the planners of the Tuesday protests are planning to repeat the same on Thursday and Sunday this week.
“The organisers of today’s orgy of violence in parts of Nairobi, Mombasa and several other parts of the Country are reportedly planning to repeat their anarchic chaos and cruel plunder again on Thursday and Sunday this week, and perhaps much more frequently in the future,” Kindiki said.
Kindiki on chaotic protests
Kindiki warned that the protests which have since turned chaotic, must end at whatever cost.
He says the government is determined to stop criminals aiming to terrorize the public and harm Kenya as they try to politicize crime.
“This reign of terror against the people of Kenya and the impunity of dangerous criminal gangs must end at whatever cost. The Government is determined to stop criminals aiming to terrorise the public and harm Kenya, notwithstanding attempts to politicise crime,” he said.
Planners to be tracked
Kindiki assured the public that the planners, executors and financiers of large-scale arson, violent robberies and other felonous crimes will be brought to justice.
“Upon completion of the ongoing evidential analysis, the Government assures the public that the planners, executors and financiers of large-scale arson, violent robberies and other felonous crimes will be brought to justice,” Kindiki stated.

He pointed out that criminals have been taking advantage of the protests, despite President William Ruto withdrawing the controversial Finance Bill, 2024, that fueled the protests.
Kindiki on police conduct
Kindiki also lauded the police whom he says have acted professionally and with restraint in the management of extremely provocative situations that arise in the course of the violent riots.
However, he pointed out that instances of unlawful conduct by law enforcement officers will be investigated and appropriate action taken.
“Overall, the Police continue to act professionally and with restraint in the management of extremely provocative situations that arise in the course of the violent riots.
“The Government commends all law enforcement officers who continue to discharge their challenging mandate of preventing crime and protecting the lives and property of the people of Kenya. Claims of some instances of unlawful conduct by law enforcement officers will be investigated and appropriate action taken,” Kindiki said.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, said that a team of detectives had been discharged to pursue criminal gangs that have been robbing Kenyans and looting during the protests.
