Alfred Keter: Questions I Was Asked On Uhuru & Gachagua During Arrest

Keter revealed that he was also questioned on whether he played any role regarding the trafficking of firearms to Congo.

Former Nandi Member of Parliament Alfred Keter on Monday, July 1 revealed that he was interrogated regarding his relationship with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his arrest on Sunday.

Speaking outside the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters while he presented himself, Keter revealed that he was also questioned on whether he played any role regarding the trafficking of firearms to Congo.

“The questions I was asked, one was about my relationship with the former President Uhuru Kenyatta and my relationship with the current deputy president and then issues to do with arms from Congo.

“I think it is a movie but let us allow it to go as per the law but generally don’t intimidate us into silence,” said Keter.

He however maintained that his stance regarding the anti-Finance Bill protests that have been taking place across the country was the reason behind his dramatic arrest.

A video went viral showing Keter being forced out of his black Landcruiser V8 by police officers just as he was leaving the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.

“We know it is about the issues we are raising concerning the Finance Bill, the cost of living and the many promises they made. We didn’t make them to give the promises. The problem with them is that they always lie,” Keter added.

Keter further accused the Kenya Kwanza government of failing to keep its promises to the Kenyan people which were made during the campaign period, and also for misrepresenting facts to the Kenyan people.

On her part, Joanne, Keter’s wife, revealed that she was still traumatized by the ordeal given that the arrest occurred in full view of her and her children.

“We had plans for the day, and while we were leaving the church, a car just came in front of us and blocked us and we were all traumatized because things happened so fast.

“So the thing I just wanted to say is because the people who came to arrest him or rather abduct him were men. You people are fathers. God will avenge this for me because whatever you have left in the hearts of our children, it is only God who will avenge me,” she addressed.

The sentiments came a day after Keter was ejected from his car by at least four police officers who bundled him into a white pickup truck with sirens, while curious onlookers watched and recorded the event.

Keter, along with his wife and children, were heard screaming as he was taken away to an undisclosed location, leaving behind the legislator’s family in his vehicle.

Earlier on Sunday, media reports had also alleged that Keter had been taken in circles in Nairobi before being booked in at Kamukunji Police Station.

The DCI would later confirm the arrest, stating that Keter was arrested for conspiracy to traffic firearms and incitement to violence.
