Alai Accuses President Ruto of Copying A Lot of His Styles, From Kaunda Suits to Even Standing

Recent photographs of President William Ruto sporting the Kaunda Suit, a style fondly chosen by many African leaders, have caused a stir in the fashion and political arenas alike. Such is the influence of Ruto that he has inspired other leaders to opt for this stylish local African attire, shining a light on indigenous designs and bringing them to the mainstream.

But with every influential trend, there’s a story behind its inception. Robert Alai, a former blogger who transitioned into politics, now serving as an MCA for Kileleshwa Ward, has come forward with an intriguing claim. Alai asserts that he was the trendsetter, cherishing the Kaunda suits long before they made a comeback in Kenyan political circles.

According to him, President Ruto’s recent affinity for the suit is not a genuine initiative but is inspired by Alai’s own personal style.

Yesterday’s events added another layer to this unfolding narrative. President Ruto was seen at Narok, celebrating the opening of the Maasai cultural festival. The president wasn’t just an observer, though. Photographs of him draped in Maasai traditional regalia swiftly made rounds on social media platforms, and the Kenyan populace rejoiced at Ruto’s gesture of embracing and appreciating the Maasai culture.

However, amid the admiration and applause, controversy was never far behind. Along with the Maasai attire, President Ruto was captured in a distinct Maasai standing pose, a pose Robert Alai insists he had made popular during a previous hiking spree in Ngong Hills, accompanied by Lawyer Silas Jakakiimba.

Alai’s contention doesn’t end there. He alleges that Ruto’s recent actions are not jus random instances but represent a broader pattern of the president drawing inspiration from the Azimio opposition.
