Aisha Jumwa Heckled By Youth After Hinting At Cabinet Reappointment [VIDEO]

Jumwa had broken her silence for the first time since she was dismissed alongside her 20 former colleagues by the Head of State, who announced the dissolution of his entire Cabinet on Thursday, July 11.

Former Gender and Culture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aisha Jumwa was on Sunday, July 21 heckled by youth in Kilifi County after hinting at being reappointed to President William Ruto’s Cabinet.

Jumwa had broken her silence for the first time since she was dismissed alongside her 20 former colleagues by the Head of State, who announced the dissolution of his entire Cabinet on Thursday, July 11.

According to her, it was up to the Head of State to determine whether it would be fit to retain her in his broad-based Cabinet, adding that in case he did not reconsider her, she would not have issues with the decision.

The mere suggestion of being reappointed to the Cabinet however attracted hostility, with the youth booing and heckling her, as well as shouting “Reject!” in unison and demanding that she exited the stage.

Here is the video:

“President Ruto does not need anyone campaigning for Aisha Jumwa, he knows… and if it pleases him to reappoint me to continue serving in his Cabinet, we will say Amen,” Jumwa said on Sunday during a meet-the-people tour in Kilifi.

“But if he deems it fit that I should rest, we will also say Amen because the Bible says we should rejoice and be thankful in everything.”

The former minister said Ruto does not need “political pressure” and “lobbying” to reappoint her.

The Kilifi people, she added, will forever thank the president for appointing her to the Cabinet after the 2022 General Elections.

President Ruto said he would engage other political players to set up a broad-based government that would assist him in the implementation of radical programmes to deal with the burden of debt, raise domestic resources, expand job opportunities, eliminate wastage and unnecessary duplication of a multiplicity of government agencies and eliminate corruption.

On Friday, July 19, Ruto unveiled a list of 11 Cabinet nominees, adding that he would announce more nominees later on.

However, a majority of the nominees consisted of those who were retained from the disbanded Cabinet and included Kithure Kindiki (Ministry of Interior), Aden Duale (Ministry of Defence) Davis Chirchir (Ministry of Transport and Roads), Soipan Tuya (Ministry of Environment), and Alice Wahome (Lands and Public Works), with Rebecca Miano, a former Trade CS, nominated as Attorney General.

The recall sparked uproar across the borders of the Republic of Kenya. On Sunday, Civil society organisations, led by Vocal Africa CEO Hussein Khalid, called for the dismissal of all recently reappointed Cabinet Secretaries, including the reconsideration of the other five nominees who are fresh faces, for eligibility.
