The prime suspect was arrested in the Kiambiu slums after officers conducted an operation in the area based on intelligence insights.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday, November 23 arrested a suspect involved in the cold-blooded murder of Detective David Mayaka in Kayole, on August 23, 2023.
The National Police Service (NPS) announced this in reference to a report made to the California Police Station of a shooting near DD Plaza on November 9, 2024.
The prime suspect was arrested in the Kiambiu slums after officers conducted an operation in the area based on intelligence insights.
“Today, DCI Officers acting on an intelligence report conducted an operation within Kiambiu slums and apprehended one Paul Othiambo Owuodho alias “Fazul Muhamed” male adult aged 27 years, linked to the fatal shooting of one Abdirahim Abdullahi Ibrahim in California,” stated DCI in part.

The incident reportedly took place at 14th Street near DD Plaza in Eastleigh. 30-second CCTV footage captured Abdullahi conversing with a woman selling tea in the area as an unidentified man emerged from nowhere.
The assailant, dressed in a dark blue overall, was seen casually walking up to the duo and as he got closer, he was seen pulling out a firearm and engaging Abdirahim in seemingly very short conversation, while the gun was pointed at him.
In cold-blooded fashion, the assailant then opened fire on Abdirahim at point-blank range and bent over, taking his phone and walking off. The horrific saga unfolded in front of the woman who quickly retreated into a nearby building following the attack.
According to his family, who has since called for justice for their kin, Abdirahim was shot just below the ear, with the bullet exiting on the other side of the head. Additionally, Abdirahim had been seeing the lady who works in one of the restaurants in Eastleigh as a waitress, and the two had decided to meet when the incident happened.
The suspect was also linked to Mayaka’s murder which occurred in the Mihango, Kayole area when he was fatally shot by three men riding on a motorcycle, with the matter before court.Â
He was driving home with his wife, Hellen Kemunto on Tuesday night, August 8, 2023, when the incident occurred, which also led to the wife being shot and wounded in the leg.
Preliminary police reports had indicated that the couple had stopped in the Hurlingham area to fix a car puncture when three men on a motorcycle approached them pretending to help the two in fixing the puncture. However, the matter turned confrontational with the officer retreating to his car for his gun.
The officer, in CCTV footage seen by Viral Tea, was heard pleading with the thugs to take whatever possessions they wanted from him, but the armed thugs were on a mission to end his life, with one of them heard instructing to shoot Mayaka dead.
The suspect is currently in police custody at the Shauri Moyo Police Station. The National Police Service (NPS) has expressed gratitude to the public for their assistance in the suspect’s arrest.
