In a recent development, the Azimio La Umoja Coalition has reacted forcefully to the request for the restart of negotiations from President Ruto’s administration. Just a short while ago, the Kenya Kwanza organization invited Azimio La Umoja to pick up the weeks-long negotiations that had been put on hold.
The Azimio team, however, has acted decisively and stated that the time for negotiations has passed, adding that it is now essential to accept the consequences. An important member of the coalition, Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, has made it clear that they will not consider restarting the bipartisan negotiations under any circumstances.
The senior brass of Azimio voiced their displeasure with recent government moves, mentioning the harsh taxation policies established in the Finance Act 2023. They contend that these policies were implemented without giving their opinions the proper weight, blatantly ignoring their worries.
The Azimio team adamantly asserts that once the government has put such harsh levies in place, there is no realistic way to reopen the talks, citing the Finance Bill 2023. Their posture communicates a strong commitment to their values and a resolve to defend themselves against what they see as unjustifiable behavior.
The Azimio team’s resolute response showcases their unwillingness to engage further in negotiations, as they believe the time for dialogue has passed and the repercussions of the government’s actions must now be confronted head-on.
