Two suspected gangsters who have allegedly been terrorizing residents of Kibera and its environs were on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, gunned down following a gun battle with Kilimani-based detectives.
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified the suspected thugs as Rundo and Mulinyo.
“The two notorious gangsters that have been terrorizing locals in Kibra and its environs were earlier today gunned down in a fire exchange with Kilimani detectives, in a stealth operation that also saw a Beretta pistol recovered,” the DCI statement affirmed.
According to the DCI, the operation was launched following tips from concerned residents, who provided crucial information about the criminal activities of the suspects identified as Rundo and Mulinyo.
Based on the information they received, undercover detectives secretly pursued the suspects, leading to a confrontation that turned deadly.
“The suspects, only known by their aliases Rundo and Mulinyo, were stealthily pursued by the undercover sleuths after anonymous reports by concerned members of the public to DCI pointed at their felonious dealings in the populated area,” the statement read further.
The DCI revealed that the criminals, sensing the imminent threat posed by the law enforcement officers, chose to resist arrest violently.
One of the miscreants reportedly brandished a firearm and opened fire indiscriminately at the officers, initiating the fatal exchange.
The deadly confrontation, DCI said, led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol, six rounds of 9mm ammunition, seven spent cartridges, and four bullet heads which are suspected to have been used by the suspected criminals in their illegal activities.
“Getting wind that a team of crime busters was hot on their heels, one of the miscreants brandished the firearm and started shooting indiscriminately at the officers. The wrong move prompted the ever-agile sleuths to respond with finality, fatally injuring the duo,” DCI added.
The bodies of the deceased gangsters were moved to a city mortuary pending identification.
