A Nintendo Switch 2 player was devastated after losing their Pokemon save file, which had over ‘1,000 hours of gameplay and 20 years of mons’, while transferring data from their original Switch.
With the Nintendo Switch 2 now available, many have been splurging on the new system to try out several different titles available on it, including an improved version of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet – a title that not only has enhanced graphics but also runs smoother on the new-gen console.
For any Pokemon fan who is just getting into this game after buying the Switch 2, the overall experience should be an exciting one. Though that’s not been the case with one particular user, who allegedly lost their whole save file when transferring their original Pokemon data from their OLED model to their Switch 2.
Pokemon player shares painful experience after data transfer on Switch 2 goes wrong
Losing beloved mons is a horrible nightmare no one wants to experience.
In a Reddit thread, one user claimed they lost their save file that contained “1,000+ hours” of gameplay as well as “20 years of Mons,” just after setting up their Switch 2 for data transfer. At first, they mentioned that the startup and initial data transfer went fine.
However, that was before they found out that their Scarlet’s save file was gone. Instead of being able to access their supposedly transferred save file upon booting up Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, they were taken to the language selection and create a new character screen.
“THERE WAS NO ERROR IN DATA TRANSFER AT ALL. IT WENT FINE. ALL MY OTHER POKEMON DATA IS STILL THERE, BUT NOT SCARLET. I had mons from my original GBA up to the current on there. Literally 20 years worth of data,” they wrote.
And if that’s not soul-crushing enough, they also added that there was allegedly no more saved data on their old Switch. They also claimed to have lost the mons that they “cared for and used the most,” in the now deleted save file, with their collection spanning all the way to the older games, such as Leaf Green and Diamond.
It got to the point where the user said they didn’t even know if they wanted to play anymore.
Many other fans who felt their pain jumped into the comments to sympathize, while some offered them advice.
One user wrote: “Is your user the only one on the system? Oh, honey, I’m so sorry… that broke my heart reading that… Biggest of hugs to you.”
“I’m so sorry. Note taken though. 1000% going to put all my mons on home before doing anything with a switch 2. Idec about the like 4 bucks for that 1 month or something. Taking no risks,” said a different user.
