Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour movie sells $100+ million in advanced tickets

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour will expectedly dominate the box office next weekend, earning more than $100 million in pre-sales.

It’ll be hard to find a blank space at the cinema next week, as AMC Theatres has reportedly sold more than $100 million worth of advanced tickets for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. While we knew the concert film would dominate the box office, that it has sold so many tickets ahead of its release shows that the haters can hate all they want, but the movies are going to be packed with Swifties next weekend.

Such sales will put The Eras Tour in some serious company as one of the best openings of the year, joining Barbie’s $162 million, The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s $146 million, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s $120 million, Guardians of the Galaxy’s $118 million, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s $106 million. For those looking for a more custom experience with The Eras Tour, also available are private theater rentals for up to 40 people. AMC also has promotional popcorn buckets and cups, because who doesn’t want to chug 24 ounces of sugary Coke product while watching a slender pop sensation shake it off on the big screen?

The Eras Tour itself grossed $300 million this year over just 22 dates. While the $300 million makes it one of the highest-grossing tours for a female artist ever, the per-show haul of $13.67 million makes the average gross the greatest ever, edging out Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour. Speaking of which, the film version of which – titled Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce – is also slated for a theatrical run in December.

The presence of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour at the cinema pushed back a number of release dates, including Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla and Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer. As Jason Blum himself put it, “The one thing that scares me to death is Taylor Swift”, even posting the hashtag #TaylorWins” on social media. As demand rises, AMC said they would “continue to take steps to reach agreements with additional cinema operators throughout the world to play this spectacular Taylor Swift tour-de-force.”
