María Gabriela de Faría will play Angela Spica, a member of The Authority with a liquid body due to the nanotechnology in her bloodstream. The character was created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch and was first introduced in The Authority #1 in 1999. The superhero group is set to be featured in their own movie in the first chapter of the DCU, but there were rumblings this summer that they would first be introduced in Superman: Legacy.

Deadline’s report also refers to The Engineer as a villain, so it’s possible she could be an antagonist this time around. It’s also not clear if any other members of The Authority will show up in the movie, but if they are, we should be hearing that casting news before too long. María Gabriela de Faría has appeared in The Exorcism of God, Deadly Class, Animal Control, The Moodys, and more.

With the addition of The Engineer, Superman: Legacy is pretty packed with DC heroes. David Corenswet (Pearl) is set to star as Clark Kent alongside Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) as Lois Lane. We’ll also see Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) as Guy Gardner, a charismatic and slightly obnoxious member of the Green Lantern Corps; Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) as Mister Terrific; and Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Metamorpho.

James Gunn will write and direct Superman: Legacy, and he has promised that the tone of the movie will be different from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Co-chair of DC Studios Peter Safran has also teased that Superman: Legacy will not be an origin story and will focus on “Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.Superman: Legacy is slated to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, which Gunn recently confirmed was still the case.
