Always Sunny creator/star Rob McElhenney recently revealed he has been diagnosed with “a host” of disorders and disabilities.
Mac Has a Learning Disability. Actor and soccer/football club owner Rob McElhenney revealed this week that he has been diagnosed with “neurodevelopmental disorders and learning disabilities” at the age of 46.
Rob McElhenney – who plays Mac Reynolds on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia – took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce the diagnosis, remaining positive and offering words of hope for those going through the same. “It’s not something I would normally talk about publicly but I figured there are others who struggle with similar things and I wanted to remind you that you’re not alone. You’re not stupid. You’re not “bad”. It might feel that way sometimes. But it’s not true :)” He further teased that he would discuss the issue more on an upcoming episode of The Always Sunny Podcast, which he co-hosts with Charlie Day and Glen Howerton.
Words of support have flooded Rob McElhenney’s social media, with a number of his 1.1 million followers praising his bravery for being so open about the diagnosis, his ability to overcome his challenges to be successful and relaying their own experiences with neurodevelopmental disorders, the most common forms of which are autism and ADHD.
Created by Rob McElhenney, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the longest-running comedy series ever, with its highly praised 16th season currently in progress. Perhaps not surprisingly, though, the show has only been nominated for three Primetime Emmys, all for stunt coordination. In between seasons 14 and 15 – which topped The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet – McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds purchased Wrexham A.F.C., with their own adventures being documented in the FX series Welcome to Wrexham. A recent episode mocked the trend of celebrity-endorsed alcohol, which plays like a fun dig at business partner and friend Reynolds, who had a stake in Aviation Gin.
Along with Charlie Day and Always Sunny writer/director Megan Ganz, Rob McElhenney co-created the terrific Apple TV+ comedy Mythic Quest, which concluded its third season earlier this year and has a fourth on the way.
