Birth/Rebirth trailer: Frankenstein-inspired horror film reaches theatres next month

A trailer has been released for the Frankenstein-inspired horror film Birth/Rebirth, which is set to reach theatres next month

Our own Tyler Nichols gave the Frankenstein-inspired horror film Birth/Rebirth a 9/10 review after catching a Sundance screening earlier this year (you can read his review HERE), and now a wider audience will have the chance to see it when it receives a theatrical release on August 18th. With that date just one month away, a trailer for Birth/Rebirth has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

Birth/Rebirth is coming to us from IFC Films and Shudder, so we can probably expect to see the movie reach the Shudder streaming service sometime in the near future.

Judy Reyes of Scrubs stars in the film alongside Marin Ireland of The Umbrella Academy and AJ Lister of Challengers. The feature debut of director Laura Moss, who also wrote the screenplay with Brendan J. O’Brien, Birth/Rebirth has the following synopsis: Rose (Marin Ireland) is a pathologist who prefers working with corpses over social interaction. She also has an obsession — the reanimation of the dead. Celie (Judy Reyes) is a maternity nurse who has built her life around her bouncy, chatterbox six-year-old daughter, Lila (A.J. Lister). When one tragic night, Lila suddenly falls ill and dies, the two women’s worlds crash into each other. They embark on a dark path of no return where they will be forced to confront how far they are willing to go to protect what they hold most dear.

Moss and O’Brien drew inspiration from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein when crafting the story, and a press release says that they reimagined the story “with such a contemporary understanding that it becomes something exciting, terrifying, and singularly new.”

Also in the cast are Breeda Wool of Mr. Mercedes and Monique Gabriela Curnen of Power Book II: Ghost. Birth/Rebirth was produced by Mali Elfman and David Grove Churchill Viste.

When the project was first announced last year, Shudder’s Craig Engler said, “We’re thrilled to be working with Laura and their amazing cast on this unique, wrenching take on a classic tale. Birth/Rebirth is a fantastic blend of psychological and body horror, sure to electrify our members.” Moss said, “I am over the moon to be working with Shudder to finally bring this project to life. It’s been gestating for a long time and I’m so proud of the cast and crew we have assembled to make it happen.
