More The Batman spinoffs are in development and everyone’s saying the same thing

Thanks to The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc, we know more spinoffs of 2022 flick The Batman are in the works. However, that isn’t necessarily what fans want.

Three years ago, RPatz made his debut as Bruce Wayne, uncovering a web of corruption after the Mayor of Gotham was brutally murdered. It pulled in over $700 million at the box office during its original release, but we’ve not seen the Mickey 17 star near a black cape since.

In its absence, The Penguin took to HBO, with Season 2 seeming unlikely… until now. Not only has the conversation about a potential second series reopened, but it’s now been confirmed more spinoffs are also in “early stages” of development, according to LeFranc.

Who could be the focus of these DC spinoffs we don’t yet know, but if showrunners listen to fans, something new isn’t even what they want.

Never mind The Batman spinoffs – where is The Batman 2?

As speculation about spinoffs and The Penguin Season 2 rises, fans are calling for the long-delayed The Batman 2 to be kicked into touch instead.

If you’ve completely forgotten that a sequel is supposed to be happening, Part II has a slated release date of October 1, 2027, originally announced as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC universe.

It was previously set for a 2025 release, but the writers’ and actors’ strikes led to The Batman 2 being delayed by a year, and then by another year into 2027. As far as we know, director Matt Reeves is working on the script with Mattson Tomlin and has signed an overall deal with DC Studios to develop the “Batverse,” which is where our teased spinoffs come in.

“Can we get The Batman 2 first, fam?” one fan replied to the news on X/Twitter, with a second agreeing, “Just give me The Batman Part 2.”

“Everything else in the works apart from The Batman Part 2,” a third added, with a fourth weighing in, “Still waiting for my most anticipated The Batman spinoff: The Batman 2.”

While this all fuels speculation that Part 2 actually won’t happen at all, there are some promising updates amid the misdirection. Matt Reeves was on track to submit a draft of The Batman Part 2 by Memorial Day, while James Gunn noted that he received “promising updates” beforehand, which supposedly included pages from the same script. Filming is thought to begin in early 2026.

While we wait for more spinoff news, Joker, Riddler, and Catwoman are the most likely candidates to front their own spinoff series. As for The Penguin Season 2, “Beyond Colin (Farrell), it depends on whether there’s a story that we can make richer than what we’ve already done,” LeFranc advised.
