Men arrested after using GTA game case to hide drugs from police

A couple of men were arrested by GCPD in Gwinnett County, Georgia after the authorities found drugs hidden in a Grand Theft Auto case.

On May 22, officers pulled over a vehicle for not using a turn signal and began talking to the two men inside.

Passenger Alexander Thomas had a gun in his waistband, which the police later determined to be stolen.

However, things got wild when a police dog was brought to the scene and found drugs in the most unlikely of places – a copy of GTA.

As reported by WSBTV, bodycam footage showed the officers looking in a glove box where they found a gun and a GTA case.

“Open the GTA game. That’s dope. That’s what they’re holding dope,” an officer said.

The cops then discovered powdered cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl pills. Quite the find, considering the unlikely hiding spot.

The driver, 28-year-old Arie Ashekun was charged with possession of a gun by a felon, improper left turn and window tint violations.

Meanwhile, the passenger, 27-year-old Alexander Thomas was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of fentanyl, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

There have been other instances of alleged criminals being fans of GTA. Earlier in 2025, a 19-year-old gun-wielding Utah man claimed he was “in GTA” while filming himself leading police on a wild chase. He was caught after uploading the videos to social media.

Surprisingly, this also isn’t the first time that a video game case has been used for drugs. In 2023, police shut down a Team Rocket-sized operation in which Pokemon art cases were used to traffic cocaine. It took a joint effort by the Bristol County State Police Drug Task Force and the US Postal Service to bust the operation.
