Youth Alive Recruiting A Consultant To Carry Out The Mid-Term Review Of Our Strategic Plan 2021-2025

Youth Alive! Kenya (herein referred to as Y.A.K.) is a Youth Serving and Youth-Led Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that has worked in partnership with youth organizations, private sector, and government to advocate for youth responsive policies, legislation, and programs within Kenya in particular and Africa in general.
The organization was formally registered as a community-based group in April 1999 and a national NGO in December 2003. Y.A.K. envisions “A society where young people are empowered to realize their full potential”. The organization currently works with over eighty four (84) youth organizations in twelve (12) Counties in Kenya. We also seek to strengthen youth participation in the development agenda in line to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets at the county, national, regional and global levels. Y.A.K.’s projects are based on three thematic pillars i.e. Good Governance; Economic Empowerment and Livelihoods; and Social Wellbeing and Equity.
Y.A.K seeks the services of consultant/group of consultants with appropriate knowledge, skills, experience, and competency to carry out the mid-term review of its Strategic Plan 2021-2025.

2. The Objective of this consultancy

The purpose of this review is to assess the progress made by YAK towards achieving the strategic objectives outlined in the plan and to identify any necessary adjustments or improvements to enhance its effectiveness and impact.

3. Specific Objectives

The main objectives of the mid-term review are as follows:
1. Assess the relevance and appropriateness of the strategic plan’s goals, targets, and activities in the current context.
2. Evaluate the extent to which YAK has achieved its strategic objectives by the midway point of the plan (end of 2023).
3. Identify key successes and challenges encountered during the implementation of the plan.
4. Provide recommendations to YAK and its stakeholders for adjustments, modifications, or additions to the strategic plan to ensure its alignment with the organization’s mission and evolving external environment.

4. Scope of Work

The mid-term review should cover the following areas:
1. Review of the current YAK Strategic Plan (2021-2025) and related documents to gain a comprehensive understanding of the intended outcomes and activities.
2. Analysis of the progress made towards achieving the strategic objectives using measurable indicators and targets.
3. Examination and evaluation of internal and external factors that may have influenced the organization’s performance during the review period
4. Facilitate meetings with staff, board, partners and other stakeholder on the implementation of the plan.
5. Conduct a comparative analysis of the strategic plan against best practices and industry standards in the NGO sector.
6. Presentation of the preliminary and final findings.

5. Expected outputs

The consultant will produce the following:
1. An inception report that clearly outlines the methodology to be used, tools and work-plan.
2. Mid-term review report: A comprehensive report that includes findings, analysis, and recommendations based on the evaluation the current YAK strategic plan’s implementation.
3. Concise summary of the main findings and recommendations suitable for presentation to the organization’s board and key stakeholders.
4. An updated Strategic plan encompassing comprehensive feedback from relevant stakeholders

Timeline:

The mid-term review is expected to be completed within 1 month from the commencement date. The timeline will be agreed upon before the initiation of the review.

Confidentiality

All information obtained during the review process should be treated as confidential and used solely for the purposes of this evaluation. The consultant/team should seek permission from the organization before sharing any sensitive information externally.

Profile of Consultant

1. Demonstrable experience in organizational and strategy development/formulation with non-profit organizations. Experience in fundraising strategy development will be an added advantage.
2. Sound understanding and knowledge of strategic planning, standard management tools and techniques to schedule, plan and measure performance.
3. Education qualification: A minimum of Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Public Policy, Law and/or other related postgraduate degrees or commensurate experience in lieu of an advanced degree.
4. Excellent research and analytical skills including desk research, interviewing skills, and stakeholder facilitation methodologies.
5. Proven experience working with civil society organizations (CSOs).
6. Confident professional with the ability to engage and work effectively with diverse range of stakeholders.

Management of the consultancy

The contracting and management of this consultancy will be under Youth Alive! Kenya.
