Position Overview

Title: Senior Investment Officer – Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Grade: GG
Duration: 3 years

The Senior Investment Officer will provide sector expertise in Manufacturing, working to expand IFC’s footprint in the region. You will lead transactions, oversee portfolio management, and support the development of long-term strategies to unlock investment opportunities.


Key Responsibilities

Pipeline Development and Client Relationships

  • Identify and develop a pipeline of high-quality investment opportunities through proactive origination and business development.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with clients, business leaders, banking and multilateral partners, and government officials to drive sector growth.

Transaction Leadership

  • Lead transaction evaluations, structuring, negotiations, and closures, including portfolio restructuring and equity sales.
  • Design innovative financial solutions for complex transactions and ensure efficient execution.
  • Conduct upstream work in collaboration with the World Bank and development partners to enhance the business-enabling environment for future investments.

Portfolio Management

  • Oversee portfolio performance and address emerging challenges.
  • Provide technical and strategic insights to ensure the long-term success of investments.

Strategy and Coordination

  • Develop and execute strategies for IFC’s Manufacturing sector in Africa, working closely with industry and regional teams.
  • Coordinate with social, environmental, and governance specialists to ensure sustainable development impact.

Mentorship and Thought Leadership

  • Mentor junior staff and foster professional development within the team.
  • Serve as a thought leader on Manufacturing sectors, including building materials, chemicals, consumer goods, and automotives.

Candidate Profile

Technical Expertise

  • Extensive experience (10-12 years) in corporate and/or project finance with a proven track record in structuring and closing investments.
  • Strong financial and credit analysis skills, with expertise in designing complex debt and equity instruments.
  • Deep understanding of the Manufacturing sector, including its challenges and opportunities.

Client Engagement and Leadership

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with senior management of businesses, government officials, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong business development and client relationship skills, with a focus on creating value for partners.

Soft Skills and Attributes

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A team player who thrives in multicultural settings.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects with attention to detail and a focus on results.
  • Strong passion for sustainable development and private sector growth.

Flexibility and Adaptability

  • Experience in Africa is a plus, though not mandatory.
