The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, through the State Department for Livestock Development, is excited to announce internship vacancies for qualified veterinary surgeons and veterinary paraprofessionals. This opportunity is specifically targeted at graduates who completed their studies in 2023/2024. The internship program is a key requirement mandated under the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Paraprofessionals Act, No. 29 of 2011, Sections 15 (1) and 17 (1). It serves as a foundational step for new professionals seeking to gain practical experience and further develop their skills in the veterinary field.

The internship will be governed by the Internship Policy and Guidelines for the Public Service, the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Paraprofessionals Regulations of 2013, and the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) Internship Guidelines. This comprehensive framework ensures that all participants receive the proper training, supervision, and opportunities for professional growth during their internship period.

The program is scheduled to commence in December 2024, with a deadline for applications set for 31st October 2024.

Eligibility and Requirements:

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the internship:

  1. Temporary Registration as a Veterinary Intern: You must obtain temporary registration with the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) for the year 2024.
  2. Certificate of Training: A valid certificate from a recognized institution is required. This could be a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM), Bachelor of Science (BSc) in relevant fields, a Diploma, or a Certificate from institutions accredited by KVB.
  3. KCSE (Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education) Certificate.
  4. KCPE (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education) Certificate.
  5. National Identity Card.
  6. Birth Certificate.
  7. KRA (Kenya Revenue Authority) PIN Certificate.
  8. Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
  9. NHIF (National Health Insurance Fund) Card.
  10. NSSF (National Social Security Fund) Card.
  11. Personal Accident Insurance Cover: This is required for your protection during the internship.
  12. Bank Account: The account should be in your name for processing stipends or payments.
  13. Two Recent Passport-Sized Photographs: These should be recent and clear.
