USAID Hiring Alumni Analyst

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) was launched by the U.S. Government in 2014 to promote leadership and professional development for young African leaders. This initiative established four Regional Leadership Centers (RLCs) across Africa—in Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa. Since 2015, YALI RLC East Africa, based in Nairobi, has served young leaders from 14 East and Central African countries, including Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Rwanda.

About YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa

YALI RLC East Africa aims to:

  • Deliver Quality Leadership Training: Courses covering leadership across multiple sectors
  • Support Entrepreneurship: Offering mentoring, technology resources, and access to capital
  • Enhance Professional Networking: Connecting young leaders with regional professionals and experts

Role Purpose

The Alumni Analyst will report to the Alumni & Volunteer Relations Manager and support the Alumni & Volunteer Relations function. This role focuses on driving alumni engagement, coordinating mentorship, managing relationships, and supporting business development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and promote alumni programs that align with the RLC’s strategic goals
  • Review investment documents for alumni enterprises, including financial data, business plans, and market analyses
  • Conduct financial model assessments to evaluate investment viability and profitability
  • Develop a pipeline of investors interested in alumni-led initiatives
  • Design and execute an annual investor readiness program for alumni enterprises
  • Support alumni by identifying and securing development resources and partnerships
  • Maintain a database of alumni startups, social enterprises, and community development initiatives
  • Facilitate mentorship connections between cohort participants, alumni, and industry mentors
  • Prepare monthly and ad-hoc reports on alumni activities
  • Work with county chapter leaders to plan and implement chapter and RLC events

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Development, or a related field
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • High ethical standards for managing confidential information
  • Willingness to travel across the 14 YALI RLC East Africa countries

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in entrepreneurship capacity building, with at least 4 years in managing startups, social enterprises, or community initiatives
  • Strong understanding of the regional entrepreneurship ecosystem
  • Self-motivated, committed, and passionate about supporting alumni initiatives at YALI RLC EA
  • Significant local knowledge and networks within the investment ecosystem
  • Experience in structuring investment products for startups is an advantage
