Standard Job Description:

Title: Communications Officer

Organizational Setting and Work Relationships:
In alignment with its Global Communications Strategy, UNHCR seeks skilled communications professionals to craft and implement activities that lead the narrative on forced displacement, generate empathy, and mobilize action. The role encompasses communications strategy, media relations, content production, social media engagement, public outreach, and more.

Duties:

  • Develop and implement communication strategies.
  • Monitor news trends and ensure UNHCR’s messaging is included.
  • Forge partnerships for content production and promotion.
  • Create news-driven content to lead narratives and mobilize action.
  • Ensure maximum impact of content through strategic distribution.
  • Monitor and adjust communication projects as needed.

Additional Duties for News and Media Roles:

  • Implement communications strategies and campaigns.
  • Draft and fact-check media releases and statements.
  • Act as a spokesperson and manage media relations.
  • Oversee communications projects, ensuring alignment with UNHCR branding.
  • Maintain and upgrade communication skills and tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • 6 years relevant experience with an undergraduate degree.
    • 5 years relevant experience with a graduate degree.
    • 4 years relevant experience with a doctorate degree.
  • Field(s) of Education: Journalism, International Relations, Political Science, Communications, Public Information, Media, Film/Video, or related fields.
