Overview
The U.S. Mission in Nairobi is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Chauffeur (GSO Motorpool). This role involves providing professional driving services for the Embassy’s General Services Office (GSO), ensuring safe and efficient transportation for authorized personnel, materials, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Driving Services:
- Operate Embassy vehicles to transport authorized personnel and visitors within Nairobi and other parts of Kenya, including remote and rugged areas.
- Deliver materials and equipment using light or pickup trucks.
- Ensure the safety of passengers and vehicles by adhering to U.S. Department of State safety and security guidelines.
- Respond to emergencies, taking necessary actions to protect passengers and vehicles.
Vehicle Maintenance:
- Conduct daily inspections to ensure vehicles are clean, roadworthy, and equipped with operational safety tools, such as seatbelts, spare tires, and emergency kits.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance and promptly report any discrepancies to the dispatcher or supervisor.
Administrative Duties:
- Complete daily motor vehicle usage records and maintain data in the Web-pass database.
- Submit travel vouchers promptly after field trips.
- Stay informed about and comply with Embassy motor pool policies, reporting any misuse of vehicles.
Safety and Security:
- Monitor local road and traffic conditions, avoiding areas that pose risks.
- Remain alert to potential threats and take evasive action when necessary.
- Ensure proper use of communication devices, such as radios, for safety purposes.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education:
- Completion of high school is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience in Kenya.
- A proven accident-free driving record for the last three years.
Language Skills:
- English: Level 3 (Good working knowledge; speaking, reading, writing).
- Kiswahili: Level 2 (Limited knowledge; speaking, reading, writing).
Skills and Knowledge:
- Comprehensive knowledge of Kenyan traffic laws and road patterns, particularly in Nairobi.
- Defensive driving skills and the ability to handle various types of vehicles, including passenger cars, light trucks, and buses.
- Proficiency in basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Ability to use Microsoft applications and basic typing skills.
- Familiarity with emergency response procedures, including first aid.
Other Requirements:
- Must pass a background investigation and medical examination.
- Possession of a valid Kenyan driver’s license.
