The Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi represents Denmark in Kenya, Seychelles, Eritrea, Mauritius and Malawi as well as the United Nations in Nairobi.

The Trade Council (TC) is an integrated part of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and works closely with development cooperation colleagues to enhance Denmark-Kenya relations and with TC colleagues in the Sub Saharan region. TC creates value, growth and knowledge for Denmark through global consulting services. We promote Danish sustainable solutions, responsible business conduct and assist Danish companies in entering and expanding on the Kenyan market, tailoring every task to the client’s needs and the local conditions. Reporting to the Head of Trade, the role of the Commercial Advisor will advise Danish companies on the possibilities of the Kenyan market and regional synergies, identify new opportunities, new business models and new clients while delivering key services for current clients. The position requires travel in Kenya, the Sub Saharan region and Denmark.

You thrive in the office setting as well as on company visits, visiting production facilities, dealing with CEOs and political representatives alike. You are a skilled networker and a sharp analytical mind. You will also be expected to apply private sector and entrepreneurial skills as well as insights in helping Danish companies develop appropriate strategies for entering the market and/or investing in the country.

Responsibilities
  • Identify business opportunities in Kenya on behalf of Danish Companies
  • Promote Danish solutions towards Kenyan stakeholders
  • Create, structure, and carry out timely deliverables to clients
  • Initiate sales, generate and manage leads
  • Conduct market intelligence and hands-on problem solving
  • Undertake high level outreach and networking and initiate and maintain an active client contacts list
  • Organize promotional events and visits and activities for companies tailored to their specific needs
  • Identify and engage company decision makers and industry networks
  • Advise on trade issues and company setup
  • Handle administrative work related to projects and ad hoc work
  • Contribute to the working environment in the TC Team and at the Embassy.

Education, desired experience and qualifications

  • You have a relevant master’s degree with work experience (minimum 5 years) in consulting, business and project development, sales, etc.
  • Experience operating in the Kenyan private sector – knowledge of Danish/Nordic/European companies is preferable
  • Thorough understanding of company strategies, innovation trends and technologies
  • Experience with the Water and Health sector in Kenya is considered an advantage or within other sectors with Danish strongholds (Energy, Food & Agro and Tech/Digitalisation)
  • Sales and result oriented personality with a positive, open-minded and pro-active approach to handling assignments
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize and plan daily work according to evolving needs, often with short deadlines and shifting tasks
  • Team player with the ability to work independently and in a structured and effective manner, with attention to detail and results
  • Ability to build and maintain networks
  • Excellent English oral and written communication and presentation skills, strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences
  • Skilled in MS Office programs and other relevant programmes and applications as well as ability to quickly familiarize oneself with other IT systems.
