Role Overview

The Regional Trade Sales Manager – Coast will drive trade business growth and revenue generation for the Mombasa Supreme branch. The role focuses on growing the Bank’s trade business, building global trade relationships, and maximizing cross-selling opportunities to enhance profitability. Additionally, the role involves managing trade products and correspondence relationships with key financial institutions, ensuring adequate credit limits, and fostering global partnerships.


Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Planning (15%)

  • Design, develop, and deliver the trade sales operational plan for the Coast region.
  • Align operational plans with the Group Trade Strategy, ensuring seamless execution across products and channels.
  • Identify and explore new trade relationship opportunities to enhance product distribution.

2. Financial Performance (30%)

  • Drive the growth of trade business revenues and profitability.
  • Meet financial targets while positioning the Bank for medium-term revenue growth.
  • Manage cost-to-income ratios in alignment with country objectives.
  • Price deals to maximize returns while ensuring client satisfaction and acceptable risk levels.

3. Sales Management (30%)

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of trade business trends, threats, and economic/regulatory drivers.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with trade customers in both presence and non-presence markets.
  • Champion seamless and trusted customer service to enhance business retention and loyalty.
  • Coordinate marketing efforts and portfolio management to ensure an exceptional customer experience.
  • Negotiate and secure adequate credit lines for local and foreign banks, achieving same-day turnaround times for limits.
  • Collaborate with the Group Trade Product Head and Credit Team to implement technical tools like risk-return calculators and credit scoring systems.
  • Represent the Bank in external trade forums to enhance visibility as the “Go-To” Trade Bank.

4. Business Delivery (15%)

  • Identify and resolve impediments to booking trade deals, ensuring pipeline deals are successfully closed.
  • Build an internal and external network to generate leads through industry associations, chambers of commerce, and seminars.
  • Cross-sell and upsell trade products to top clients while developing tailored solutions to meet their needs.
  • Contribute to product development and marketing materials based on client feedback.
  • Drive the implementation of initiatives to improve sales and visibility in trade finance.

5. Stakeholder Management (10%)

  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure collaboration and alignment.
  • Facilitate training and knowledge sharing across teams, branches, and subsidiaries to enhance trade capabilities.
  • Promote a high-performance culture by equipping team members with the tools and development opportunities needed to succeed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
  • 5–8 years of experience in banking, product management, or financial institution business.
  • Proven track record in product management or relationship management in the financial sector.
