Position: Social Media Officer

Job Overview: Royal Media Services Limited is seeking to recruit a highly qualified person for the position of Social Media Officer. The job holder will be responsible for developing suitable content to enhance the online presence of the vernacular stations, engaging with the audience, and promoting the company’s brand.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Development: The Social Media Officer will develop and curate engaging and shareable content for social media platforms. This includes creating posts, graphics, and videos that resonate with the audience and enhance the visibility of the vernacular stations. Ensuring brand consistency in all social media content is crucial to maintain a cohesive and professional online presence.

Quality Control: The officer must ensure that all content meets ethical and editorial standards before distribution on various platforms. This involves proofreading, fact-checking, and adhering to media laws and ethics to maintain the company’s reputation and credibility.

Brand Awareness: Increasing brand awareness through creative content development is a primary objective. The Social Media Officer will use innovative strategies to capture the audience’s attention and promote the company’s brand effectively. This includes staying updated with current trends and utilizing them to the company’s advantage.

Collaboration: Collaboration with the marketing and commercial teams is essential to align social media efforts with the company’s overall goals. The Social Media Officer will handle client needs on digital platforms, ensuring that social media activities support marketing campaigns and commercial objectives.

Community Engagement: Monitoring and engaging with the online community is a key responsibility. The Social Media Officer will respond to feedback, suggestions, and leads from the audience, fostering a positive and interactive online environment.

Platform Management: Ensuring all social media platforms are updated regularly with fresh and engaging content is crucial. The officer will keep all channels active and relevant, reflecting the company’s dynamic presence in the media landscape.

Trend Monitoring: Advising supervisors on new trends in online tools, applications, channels, design, and strategy is essential. The Social Media Officer will stay abreast of evolving trends through continuing professional education in digital platforms.

Client Campaign Execution: Executing and monitoring clients’ social media communication campaigns will be part of the role. The officer will ensure that client campaigns are well-coordinated and effectively managed to achieve desired outcomes.

Skills and Personal Attributes:

  • Language Proficiency: Must have excellent spoken and writing skills in Kalenjin, Kamba, Kiembu, Ameru, or Swahili cha Kijomba.
  • Analytical Skills: Must have strong analytical skills to assess social media performance and make data-driven decisions.
  • Media Knowledge: Understand Media Laws & Media Ethics to ensure compliance.
  • Self-Motivation: Must be self-driven, assertive, punctual, and organized.
  • Social Media Savvy: Must be innovative, creative, and knowledgeable about social media platforms.
  • Team Player: Must be dynamic, able to work under demanding circumstances, and a team player.
  • Technical Skills: Must have a working knowledge of online technology, online news best practices, and an appreciation of business processes, protocols, and controls.
  • Professionalism: Demonstrate a professional approach and appearance, including enthusiasm, drive, commitment, honesty, trust, and loyalty.
  • Continuous Learning: Keep abreast of evolving trends through continuing professional education in digital platforms.

Academic and Professional Experience:

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Communication, Media, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Experience: Demonstrated capacity in managing social media accounts with at least two (2) years’ experience working either as a journalist or Social Media Executive.
