The Hospital is soliciting for qualified applicants for the position of a Nutritionist.
Reports to : Nutritionist In-Charge
Job Summary
To continuously perform comprehensive nutritional assessment based on identified needs of patients and makes recommendations on appropriate therapy. The Jobholder pays attention to the significant connection between nutrition and disease and in liaison with the clinical team, provides effective medical treatment.
Duties and responsibilities:
· Responsible for dietary/nutrition management within the three units, i.e., Eye, Orthopaedic and the General Unit.
· Attends ward rounds and assess patients and recommends special diets.
· Conducts dietary counseling.
· Provides guidance on diet change.
· Explains use of diet therapy.
· Calculates and documents ingredients for enteral feeds for all patients who need special care.
· Advices on enteral feeding regime in consultation with the clinicians.
· Provides health talks e.g. in ART, DM Clinics.
· Gives health education to relatives on discharge – homebased care.
· Gives health talks to the mothers on maternal and infant feeding.
· Monitors and promotes growth to children under five years of age through MCH/FP Clinic.
· Participates in CME (Continuous Medical Education).
· Follows up on patients on care to promote healthy dietary regime.
· Understands basic principles of human nutrition in relation to health and diseases
· Attend to patients at the nutrition clinic.
- Prepares diet prescriptions.
· Supervises food items prepared in the kitchen for quantity, quality and timeliness.
· Ensure diet sheets are followed to the latter.
· Educates kitchen staff on diet therapy to ensure to ensure correct type of food is provided to clients at all times.
· Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Essential Qualifications
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
- Must have high standards of integrity and ethical practice.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years experience preferably in a hospital or in health services.
